Anti-Gravity Treadmill
Anti-Gravity treadmill, also known as AlterG, has the same platform as a treadmill but is unlike any other running equipment! The celiathlete, writer of The Machine that Just Changed My Life: The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill states, “The AlterG’s technology was originally conceived as part of an effort to help NASA’s astronauts maintain fitness during prolonged space flight. The machine uses an advanced pressure regulation system with a treadmill to provide the most effective and comfortable body weight support system.” This machine was originally made to help astronauts run in a more natural way while being in an environment without gravity.
In the AlterG system, users gently “unweight” themselves with positive air pressure to reduce gravitational forces on the body. They can move to regain, maintain, and improve mobility, wellness, and performance. This technology supports walking and running biomechanics, helping you to achieve your goals and improve your daily functions. Athletes who have sustained an injury and have been unable to exercise are now able to run in a gravity-reduced environment. Patients can now rehab better, train smarter and exercise safer with AlterG.
Below are some of the many benefits of using AlterG:
- Those recovering from injury and surgery can do partial weight-bearing exercises; thus they are able to rehab faster and safely. The AlterG provides patients with a painless and controlled form of exercise. Using the AlterG when recovering from an injury or surgical procedure will help you recuperate faster while improving your cardiovascular fitness.
- The AlterG treadmill surrounds you with a safety bar to use for support and balance. Your physical therapist will be by your side to guide you through your speed and pressure. Patients who exercise with the AlterG treadmill do not have to worry about falling or joint pain.
- AlterG reduces stress on your bones, joints and muscles. The process of unweighting starts with putting on specialized shorts to create an airtight seal once zipped into the air chamber surrounding the AlterG treadmill. Then your physical therapist will calibrate the machine to pressurize the chamber to unweight you and allow you to run pain-free and without impeding your natural gait mechanics.
The Anti-Gravity treadmill can be used to assist in the recovery of:
