Continuing therapy for stroke patients!
For most stroke patients, rehabilitation mainly involves physical therapy. The aim of physical therapy is to have the patient relearn simple motor activities such as walking, sitting, standing, lying down, and the process of switching from one type of movement to another. Another important component is occupational therapy.
The main goal of occupational therapy is to teach the patient to relearn daily activities; such as eating, drinking, swallowing, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and using the toilet. This is done through tailored exercise and training which helps the patient to become independent or semi-independent.
For stroke survivors, physical and occupational therapy will be an ongoing process to maintain and relearn skills and could involve working with specialists for months or years after the stroke. it is important to keep up with your exercises and seeing your therapist as you want to stay healthy and do not want to decline. This is why we are still seeing patients through the Covid-19 pandemic. We have therapists that can go into the home and our Great Neck and Farmingdale clinics are OPEN!
