Fall Prevention

Fall Prevention and Physical Therapy

Balance and fall prevention are an important component of physical therapy.  Falls can be dangerous, leading to serious injuries and disabilities. By working with a physical therapist you can decrease your risks of falls, helping you to improve your balance, muscle strength, and endurance.

Your therapy program will begin with an evaluation where your therapist will examine your risk factors and develop a plan to help keep you safe and maintain your independence.  Treatment will vary depending on your needs but will often includes:

  • Targeted exercises to strengthen weakened muscles
  • Stretches to improve flexibility
  • Working with other medical professionals to address any underlying medical conditions
  • Making recommendations to footwear
  • Recommending other coping strategies and assistive devices that may be needed

Balance disorders can lead to falls if not managed. If you are having issues with your balance, physical therapy using gait training techniques, is the most effective tool for treating balance disorders.

Our team at Reddy Care Physical therapy has extensive experience in using physical therapy to help prevent falls. Call us today to get started with a consultation!
