Femur Fracture

A femur fracture is known as a broken thighbone. The femur is the largest and strongest bone in the body. The femur runs from below the hip to the beginning of the knee. A femur fracture may occur in three different areas: the higher end near the hip and pelvis, the main shaft of the bone or the lower end near the knee. Since the femur is such a strong bone, a broken femur is rare but can happen to anyone at any age.

Causes of a femur fracture may include:

Symptoms of a femur fracture may include:

Breaking your femur can make everyday tasks more difficult. A femur fracture will most likely need rehabilitation but your doctor will let you know when the time is right for physical therapy. Physical therapy can help assist you with further recovery. At Reddy Care Physical, Occupational and Aquatic Therapy, your physical therapist will design a unique treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Physical therapy can help manage pain, improve movement in your leg and hip, strengthen muscles and improve gait and balance. Our physical therapists are experienced in treating patients with femur fractures. Your treatment plan may include manual therapy, massage therapy, strengthening exercises, stretches, exercise rehabilitation, ice and heat applications, electrical stimulation, kinesio taping, myofascial release, balance and gait training, education, and pain management.
