Natural Treatment for Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a long-term chronic condition causing widespread pain, fatigue, and cognitive disturbance.

While it’s unclear what causes fibromyalgia, it’s thought that the pain is due to an overactive sympathetic nervous system.  This is the part of the body that activates the flight or fight response mechanism.  Many people experience their first fibromyalgia symptoms after a physically or emotionally traumatic event.  Researchers think that certain gene mutations may play a factor. If you have family members with fibromyalgia, you are more likely to develop it.

Pain is the hallmark of fibromyalgia. You will feel pain in different muscles, and soft tissues around your body. The pain can range from mild achiness to intense debilitating discomfort.  You may feel the pain in more than one area of your body. If the pain level is high, it can affect your ability to cope with day to day activities.

Physical therapy is a great natural alternative treatment for fibromyalgia pain. It can help you manage your fibromyalgia symptoms and improve your quality of life. Physical therapy treatment can include anything from exercises and stretches to improve strength and range-of-motion, to pain-relieving modalities like trigger point injections and massage. Your therapist will develop a program that will help balance your body's own ability to regulate nerve impulses and alleviate pain.
