Physical & Occupational Therapy Interventions For Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia, also known as fibrositis, is a condition that causes widespread pain and tenderness all over the body. Other symptoms may include fatigue, cognitive difficulties, anxiety, migraines, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and postural tachycardia syndrome.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, there are treatments that can help control the symptoms. Trying a variety of treatment strategies can help minimize the symptoms and improve your overall health. Natural remedies for fibromyalgia may include:

A physical therapist can help teach you exercises to increase your strength, mobility, flexibility and stamina. Your physical therapy treatment plan may include stretches, strengthening & range of motion exercises, cardiovascular exercises and pain-relieving modalities. Reddy Care offers aquatic therapy at our Bayside clinic with our AquaFit underwater treadmill system. Exercising increases energy, reduces pain and improves your sleeping but the buoyancy of water supports joints and the body overall.

An occupational therapist can help make safety adjustments in your home or work environment or teach you different techniques so you can continue to perform daily tasks while putting less stress on your body. Occupational therapists help you with adaptive techniques, energy conservation, pain management, relaxation techniques, problem solving, sleep hygiene, communication techniques, and goal-setting.

Fibromyalgia isn’t life-threatening but it can be challenging to live with chronic pain and fatigue. If fibromyalgia isn’t treated your work and daily activities are more difficult to do. Call Reddy Care Physical, Occupational and Aquatic Therapy today to get started!
