Physical Therapy is One of the Most Effective Treatments for Plantar Fasciitis

physical therapy can help patients with Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a condition that causes pain in the bottom of the heel. The Plater Fascia is a thick band of tissue that connects your heel to the front of your feet. When this gets inflamed, it causes heal pain and stiffness.  The pain associated with plantar fasciitis usually develops gradually over time. Pain levels can vary from dull to sharp. Pain can be worse in the morning, or after prolonged activity, things like walking for long periods, or climbing stairs, can aggravate it.

Plantar fasciitis often occurs in runners or people who spend a lot of time on their feet. Women in later stages of pregnancy may experience bouts of plantar fasciitis. Carrying extra weight can increase the risk of this condition. Generally, it is caused by the tightening of the tissue under the foot and further up the leg, which causes inflammation and tiny tears in the tissue. Getting supportive shoes with good arch support and replacing athletic shoes often can help prevent plantar fasciitis.  Staying fit and incorporating low impact exercises into your routine, like swimming, or biking, can help.  Making sure to stretch often, especially before exercise, is also important.

If you are experiencing plantar fasciitis pain, physical therapy is one of the most effective treatments. A physical therapist can develop a program to help you reduce pain and promote healing of the tissue. They will examine your movements and walking habits and get you started with the right exercises and stretches to improve range of motion and prevent a recurrence. A physical therapist can also offer other treatments, like ultrasound and ice therapy, to reduce swelling.
