Pinched Nerve Pain

Pinched nerves occur when there is too much pressure applied to a nerve. A nerve is surrounded by tissues, such as bones, muscles, tendons or cartilage. A pinched nerve can occur in any part of the body such as the lower back, upper middle back, neck, hand, elbow or wrist.

The pressure of a pinched nerve may cause the following symptoms and/or signs

Conditions that result in a pinched nerve may include

Home activities that can help pinched nerves include rest from the activities that cause discomfort, application of heat and ice, stretching and strengthening of the affected nerves. Physical therapy and occupational therapy can also help a pinched nerve. A physical or occupational therapist may recommend a splint or brace to help reduce movement of the affected area. They may also recommend exercise to help strengthen muscles and relieve nerve compression.

Dr. Adam Barga, PT, DPT states, “ A pinched nerve acts like wiring in a house. If the wire is pinched or affected, it can cause changes in another room of the house. In the same way, a pinched nerve can cause pain or weakness in another part of the body. That's why a PT will often treat areas in addition to the painful area.” At Reddy Care, we have trained and educated physical and occupational therapists. Your physical or occupational therapist may carry out therapies like massage, myofascial, and manipulation. It is important to get help if you are experiencing pinched nerve symptoms.
