Post-Operative Rehabilitation

Post operative rehabilitation

Postoperative rehabilitation is a type of physical therapy that is intended to help you recover from surgery. Postoperative rehabilitation, when used properly, reduces pain, shortens recovery time, and assists you in regaining function of your injured bones, muscles, or tissues.

The Reddy Care Physical & Occupational Therapy team will perform a full physical exam and review your medical history during your initial visit to design a rehabilitation plan that will aid in your recovery.

The Stages of Post-Operative Rehabilitation

Surgery recovery

The first step toward normal function is recovery from surgery.

Reducing pain

You may experience muscle pain, movement pain, or pain from swelling and irritation after many surgeries, depending on the procedure.

Rebuilding motion

Mobilizing an injury is crucial for restoring normal body function after surgery. The training of soft tissue and joint mobilization is used to increase range of motion and decrease pain.

Rebuilding strength

Equally important is rebuilding strength through physical therapy to prevent muscle weakness, which will limit the flexibility, endurance, and strength of the injured region.

Restoring normal function

After regaining strength and mobility, the next step in returning to normal life is regaining balance and coordination.

Everyone heals from injuries at different rates, so your treatment will be designed to suit your specific needs. Getting back to intense physical activity for sports may take longer than normal function, and age can play a part in healing times.

If you’ve just had surgery and need quality physical therapy to get back on track, schedule a consultation  at Reddy Care Physical & Occupational Therapy to get started.
