What is Kinesio Taping?

Kinesio tape also known as kinesiology tape, elastic therapeutic tape, KT, and K-tape is an elastic cotton strip with acrylic adhesive that helps pain caused by an injury. Kinesio tape is safe for all ages and is flexible enough to be used during rehab and for athletes. Kinesio taping is durable enough to support your joints, muscles and ligaments.

Benefits of Kinesio tape:

Applying kinesio tape to the problematic joints or muscles helps to create a pulling sensation while keeping the joints and muscles in place. This helps allow blood and other fluids to circulate more easily while helping to improve the circulation, lessen swelling and speed up the healing process.

It is important to speak with your physical therapist for guidance before using kinesio tape for any reason. A Physical therapist can apply the kinesio tape properly so it works effectively. Wrapping techniques change depending on the part of the body which needs attention. For example, certain injuries call for the “Y” or “X” shaped applications, while other smaller and fragile areas heal better with the “I” shaped wrapping.

Our trained Physical therapists at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational Therapy treat with using kinesio tape for common conditions such as back sprains and strains, neck aches, shoulder injuries, knee pain and sports injuries.
